Orchard Central Rooftop Garden

I stumbled upon this the other day while showing the boy the magnificent view from the escalators that run along Orchard Central’s main facade. The last time i was there (quite long ago), the escalators went up to only the 7th floor – and it was already impressive enough then.

It’s a bit unfortunate that the view towards Centrepoint and beyond is quite unattractive:

I like the words on its roof though:

There’re some really beautiful Peranakan shophouses in that direction..

The garden itself was pretty alright – nice place to stroll around and relax after shopping, although it isn’t as romantic as the words “rooftop garden” might sound.

There’s a pond of water hyacinths outside the chinese restaurants on the roof. Reminded me of primary school where our eco pond had lots of water hyacinths! my first time seeing its flowers though.

There were interesting looking wire men adorning the roof.

It’s quite interesting that the Singtel main office is the highest building in the area..

I’m not sure why, but I kinda like the Singapore Power Building (I still think of it as the PUB). perhaps it’s because it looks like what “futuristic” buildings were meant to be like in the.. 80s.

The boy said that for an expensive part of town, the condominiums are pretty ugly looking. I unfortunately have to agree.

Still, the *scape Park (i think that’s what it’s called?) and the other i-don’t-know-what below made for interesting diversions.
